Grand Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria

Mag. Dr. Othmar Ederer, CEO of the GRAWE Vermögensverwaltung, was awarded the Grand Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria for his 75th birthday. The decoration was awarded by Federal Minister Dr. Markus Marterbauer and presented by State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl. 

The celebrations for Dr. Ederer's 75th birthday took place on January 30 at the Old University in Graz, together with family, long-standing companions and executives of the GRAWE. During the ceremony, this prestigious state award was presented in a dignified manner, honoring his decades of service to the insurance and finance industry and his long-standing commitment to Austria as a business and media location.

Since joining the Grazer Wechselseitige Versicherung AG (GRAWE), Dr. Ederer has played a decisive and guiding role in the development and internationalization of the GRAWE Group (insurance companies with a presence in 13 countries in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe; banks including Bank Burgenland, Schelhammer Capital, DADAT Bank, plattform, Security KAG / real estate – presence in 13 Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European countries) and has held numerous executive positions (member or chairman of the supervisory board, member or chairman of the management board/managing director, etc.). He began his career in 1984 as an assistant to the management before becoming head of the property insurance contract department in 1985. In 1986, he became a member of the Board of Directors and in 1997 Deputy Chairman of the Board. From 2000 to 2017, he led the company as CEO of GRAWE and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Since 2017, he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GRAWE Vermögensverwaltung and has been supporting the strategic development of the group in this role ever since. Dr. Ederer's term as Chairman of the Management Board of the GRAWE Vermögensverwaltung will end on January 31, 2026.

Last year, Dr. Ederer continued to make significant business decisions in his capacity as a member of the management board. These included the acquisition of Anadi Bank branches in Carinthia, the further development of DADAT Bank, and its expansion into Germany with TradersPlace.

In the insurance sector, he further expanded the GRAWE Group's international presence, including through the acquisition of Prime Insurance Company Ltd. based in Cyprus. At the same time, Dr. Ederer set clear priorities for strengthening the GRAWE brand and securing skilled jobs in Austria and abroad. In addition, he has been part of the of the Supervisory Board of Styria Media Group AG since 2017 and has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board since February 2025 and is committed to the strategic development of one of Austria's largest media companies.
